Some think the words Old, Fat and Broke are far too negative to hear and use. Some describe themselves as “Old” even when they are young. Some feel “Broke” even when they make more money that 95% of the population, and some feel “Fat”, well…probably because they are. I’m just going off statistics here. Through my own experiences I believe if you can improve one of these aspects in your life, the other aspects of old, fat and broke will improve as well.
Old, fat and broke are all subjects I am sick of people using as excuses to be even more old, more fat, or stay broke. People say these words as a figure of speech to express feeling tired or worn out, due to stress, responsibilities or from experiences that make them feel lost in their lives.
Our culture plays a vital role in the use of these words. We benchmark ourselves against other people who might be further ahead (or behind and act ahead) which can lead individuals to think they are older, fatter and have less money because they have not yet met the “social standards” or benchmarks.
This all has to stop! We as people need to look in the mirror, own up to where we currently are today, and make the decision to change our mindset to believe we can be young, fit and rich as hell.
We can Feel Young, Fit and Rich
The reason I believe all three of these topics fit so nicely together is because all three of them can be made better by using the same techniques. We can stop these feelings by paying attention to them instead of acting on them once an issue arises. These things need attention and the longer we do not pay attention, the longer we fall down the rabbit hole and suffer mentally and physically.
Ultimately many of these feelings are subjective and come at different points in peoples’ lives. All three, Old, Fat, Broke, will vary from person to person depending on personal experiences, influences and personal perspectives.
The Reason Old, Fat and Broke are the Same
OLD: People will feel old when they are 35, 40, 45 and 55 years old. Do these people know they still possibly have 30-50 years of life to live yet? I don’t think so. They feel this way because of past experiences, responsibility changes, comparing their life to others, because of physical changes, or just because their mindset is jacked.
FAT: Bodybuilders feel fat even when they are ripped to shreds. Put that into perspective. Fat people feel fat because they truly are. I don’t know how else to say it. Everyone else is in the middle somewhere and there are many reasons why people have these thoughts go through their minds on a daily basis. Social Medial plays a huge role, personal standards play into it, past experiences find their way in, mental health, peer pressure, and changes in body composition are all reasons people feel this way.
Broke: Being or feeling broke is a breaking point. One where people will use it to just give up on everything else. Money is everything right? It shouldn’t be, because everything that makes us happy in life, comes free. However people still feel this way because they compare themselves to others, their lifestyle is inflated over their income, they are financially stressed, they have mountains of debt, or they just downright have a perception of wealth that really doesn’t fit their true feelings.
Doing Better In One Will Carry Over
The good part is all three of these topics can be thought about and brought to light with the same steps.
- Look back, take note and reflect on how you got to where you are.
- Figure out your true “WHY”.
- Set goals for the future. 1 month, 6 months, 1 year and 5 year goals.
- Start working towards those goals
- Rinse and Repeat
Using these steps and addressing the true feelings an individual has towards being Old, Fat or Broke can make the biggest impact.
If you feel fat, look at your past and see what you have been doing and eating that got you into that spot. Find the negative things and get rid of them from this day on.
The same goes for feeling old and like you are running out of time. Look back, see what your biggest time wasters are and work towards only doing things that only make you feel excited to live.
If you feel broke, the same is true. Look back on the last months of expenses, write them all down and then see what you can get rid of to make your future brighter or pay off some of that debt.
The Key to Improvement
The key to improve in any area of your life is to realize where you are, look at the triggers that got you in the position and start to make incremental improvements. You can start by being nice to yourself. You have to accept yourself and understand his moment in time does not define your self worth.
You can challenge negative beliefs and thought patterns. Question the validity of the thoughts you have and contradict these beliefs with positive qualities and aspects that bring your life joy. This will require you to reframe your perspective. Stop worrying about what others think and just be yourself. Start to take on healthy habits and your world will change forever.
Lastly, seek support, have gratitude and practice positive affirmations to get your mind in a spot where you are ready and able to take action. Nothing will change until you are ready to make them change. This stuff will not get better, unless you are ready to make them better. It is a tough realization, but one that needs to happen today.
You are in control. Believe it and watch your Old, Fat and broke thought patterns melt away. This all takes time and effort, but if you give these feelings the time and effort they demand, you will instantly start to have a more positive and realistic view of yourself and your circumstances. This will run like water through the other aspects of your life.
